Welcome to 'Discovering Primary Sources', a Training Series

Your institution has access to a wealth of ProQuest Primary Sources and we're here to help you get the most out of these unique collections. In this training series, our expert trainers Louisa Vickers-Mills and Ali Nazari-Nouri will take you on a journey exploring different resource platforms and study topics, including Black History, Human Rights, Women's Studies and much more.

Throughout the series, you'll learn how to create sophisticated searches as well as using the inbuilt platform functionality to best support research and teaching. Discovering Primary Sources: Who was Sally Hemings?

Join us for a deep dive into ProQuest Historical Newspapers. This session concentrates on Sally Hemings, once an enslaved woman owned by Thomas Jefferson, and use Black Historical newspapers to investigate her story.

Historical Newspapers used for this webinar include: Atlanta Daily World, The Baltimore Afro-American, Chicago Defender, Los Angeles Sentinel, New York Amsterdam News, Norfolk Journal and Guide, Philadelphia Tribune, and Pittsburgh Courier.

Discovering Primary Sources: Reclaim the Night

In this session we explore the story behind the ‘Reclaim the Night’ movement that begun in 1977 in the UK as a response to the Yorkshire ‘Ripper’ murders.
